Osama: Journal 3

Day 3 (November 2):

Today we had another very good speaker. She came from the Padua Center down in central Toledo. It was developed for the people living in the neighborhood next to the center. That neighborhood is in a very large crisis. There is a lot of conflict. It is destroying families and homes are getting blocked out because they don’t have what it takes to sustain a lifestyle. The way she described these people and their issues kind of made you feel inspired like you want to make a difference and help. So, I personally would be glad to help them out at the Padua Center. Speaking of the center, what makes it effective are all of its programs and events. They have so many different ways of helping people with any type of crisis. The main one that caught my attention was the one for children that got suspended. It showed the uniqueness of their program. They were thinking outside of the box and are now able to provide help for some people that most other charities don’t even think about. Although they don’t provide a place to sleep, I got the impression that you would feel a sense of comfort inside. Especially considering the danger of the neighborhood around it. I think the speaker was very dedicated to her cause. The way she answered all the questions gave me an impression that she was giving everything for the Padua Center.

Later in the day, we went to visit the Cherry Street Mission's Life Bridge Center again to help out with community service. It was pretty much the same experience as the last time, with moving furniture and folding clothes. However, the more we go to help out, I feel like I’m getting much more comfortable in knowing that my work was not a waste. I was way more confident because of this knowledge that my work was for a very good cause, so I put everything into it and had a really good experience.
