Nick: Journal 1

Day 1 (October 31):

Today, our winterim group came to school not knowing what was in-store for us. I wasn’t really sure on what to expect, but now i am happy that i signed up for this. To start it off, we received the text that we will be reviewing. It was written for teacher use so i feel special. We had a speaker named Dan wiltson who is from the northwestern disability center. When he rolled in I didn’t think he was going to be interesting. I was very wrong.

When he spoke, he spoke the truth about disabilities and he seemed like he knew what he was talking about. He told us about how a lot of people have disabilities that we cant see or tell that they have. Or the more visible ones.

He also brought it back to our lives to where we could connect with it better. That I feel is a problem most teachers have when they teach us. It is more bringing it back AND making it interesting for us to think about. That is one of the few things I don’t like. And then we went to a part of Cherry Street Mission and moved some shelves to show some child clothes.

I have been there before to do work, but I usually go there with my life group at church. We go there a lot to do some work. I enjoy working there but it is different working with school and church. I don’t know why.
