Today, we went to the Ronald McDonald House.
Sorting through the letters, I began to ponder how they didn't get any government funding. In fact, I think we totaled about ten thousand dollars in funds just today. It got me thinking about the financial side of all these organizations. None of hem - Cherry Street Mission, the Ronald McDonald House, the Life Bridge center - none of them get direct government funding. It got me thinking about how decent some people are in their donations, but also about how the money people donate probably isn't enough for more luxury or comfort in the systems.
The Ronald McDonald house itself was a very warm, welcoming environment. I can't imagine the tons of stress it's home to, how much the parents are enduring. It really is a wonderful place.
Even though our work was hard, I must say I enjoyed it. It was a good change to be seeing (though indirectly) the fruits of our labor and the ordinary people we were influencing :)
