Day 9 (November 10):
The speaker from Big Brothers, Big Sisters wasn't especially interesting because 1) she wasn't originally the speaker we were supposed to have and 2) I already knew about the program and she didn't have much to tell beside the basics. The Ronald McDonald House was... um... amusing (to say the least). It was fun cleaning the toys or dumping them into a bucket of bleach, but that's mostly because I clean like a fool. The baking was a good experience too; I was one of Mr. Graham's minions. The other minions were Nick and Robbie. We made up such a boss army. Although, we did burn two trays of cookies. But we need not speak of such things. Just in case it wasn't clear, cooking and cleaning- not areas I prosper in. Maybe that's why it was so fun. I'm absolutely horrible at both of the services we performed in the house today, but it was okay because I was with my peers and we could just laugh about (while benefitting the community, of course. Mutually beneficial!) To conclude, I did learn a few valuable lessons today: First, we are not that innovative when it comes to Veteran's Day in nursing homes; Second, I apparently must embrace my inner conservative; and last, but not least, all of us in one room trying to work doesn't really get anything done. It only causes more chaos and disaster. Or maybe that's just me... but we do know how to take a boring task and do it our way *cue the picture of Mr. Graham wearing a pink scarf-like object*.
