Today, a woman from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of NW Ohio (BBBSONW) came to talk to us. She explained the basics of the program and how it worked. While she wasn't the most engaging speaker, I still enjoyed the content of her talk. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a really nice concept. She really didn't go much into detail about the impact of the relationship between the Bigs and the Littles, but from the brief success stories she shared from us, I could tell the impact was huge. The mentors have the ability to change the lives of the kids they mentor. It's pretty amazing how a child in a dire household situation can turn around and maintain good grades and happiness just because they were given the chance at friendship. Big Brothers Big Sisters proves that with a good friendship, a person can benefit in so many ways.
We also went to the Ronald McDonald house again. It was the first time our entire group was put in one place and given one job. Our job was to clean practically every toy in the basement. It could have been a boring job, but we all made the best of it and were able to joke around and make it fun. The better part of our visit though, was the baking. It was really fun doing something that I knew the people of the House would acknowledge. I mean, if we just clean their toys, nothing really special happens. But this way, by making them muffins and cookies, we knew that the guests of the House would appreciate it even more.
