Abi: Journal 6

Day 6 (November 7):

Today our class visited the company, IMPACT to talk to Dr. Findlay. When we were asked to research the company, I thought it was a pretty cool company that made green cleaning products. One thing I was confused about was why the speakers never talked about the"green" aspect of the company. Dr. Jim Findlay used to be a the President of the company, and after he retired, he sold the business for $21 million. I was amazed with the fact that he actually gave away $18 million to his employees. He gave 1 million to different charities, and he saved the rest for his children. I could tell that Dr. Findlay had good morals just by the way he talked, and what he had done in the past. He always treated people right and was a role model to me. Also, he mentioned that the people he hires, never leave the company because they love the environment and people they work with. I felt like Dr.Findlay was really involved in helping the youth, and never took anything for granted. When we talked about integrity, and how everyone should carry that trait. Dr. Findlay was an excellent example of that. Something I noticed though, was how humble he was to explain his accomplishments and awards of giving to the community. He always avoided conversations of how he got a certain award, or anything in depth about his accomplishments in the past. Even though considered himself a low grade student, I thought it was amazing how he could build himself up to become a president of a company so large.
