Nora: Journal 6

Day 6 (November 7):

Our time at Impact Products provided a good learning opportunity. Having said that, I didn't find it to be absolutely fascinating. Dr. Findlay and the associated at the company had valuable things to say, but that line of work isn't the most appealing to me; but that's just my personal opinion. They spoke a lot about integrity and other related topics, which surprised me. I had been expecting to hear more about the company itself. I did learn about the company's philosophy, and it was a very refreshing one. Most businesses (or at least the ones we hear about) have a reputation for being corrupt and having a great lack of integrity. We hear about businesses with an unsatisfactory workplace environment. It was interesting that no curse words were allowed in the building. Period. I was also surprised at how many females they had in top positions. Although more women are pursuing careers in medicine and the sciences, women with top executive positions in business are not quite so common. The general atmosphere of respect and *cough cough* integrity came as a pleasant surprise. The woman in marketing, Kaiko, had valuable advice about pursuing a career. As someone who continually fails to make up her mind, I found Kaiko's advice particularly helpful. Though what she said about exploring different areas even if you weren't sure you actually liked them seems so simple and common- sense, it had never really occurred to me. I had always thought, If I don't like it, why would I waste time on it? But you never know.
