Sachin: Journal 14

At today's trip to the Padua Center, I tutored. It was a whole different experience. I did enjoy being able to perform a direct service, but, and you can ask Osama, I was getting antsy. I felt bad, but I couldn't sit still. I had to walk around. I did help the kids a lot, and I think they liked us, but I just couldn't do it. They need help with Social Studies, and that was reading in the textbook and answering the questions. We basically helped them by reading it, and telling the to keep reading until they found the right answers. Some of the questions were hard, though, at least I think they were for their age. The questions weren't just fill-in-the-blanks from complete sentences in the text book, some questions involved sumerizing and anlyzing. Otherwise it was a lot of fun, if it wasn't for my need to move!

Also today, I realized and understood more about the suspensions and Toledo Public Schools. The reason why the two kids were suspended was because they got into a fight, with each other, over a chair. Now they are best buds. I believe that this was a stupid reason to get suspended. The kids are almost getting a vacation because of this stupid suspension. They didn't do anything too bad, they made new friends of each other, and they get to spend a probably marvalous day at the Padua Center. The kids also told us about their principal and some stupid rules they have. I understand that Toledo Public may be trying to keep discipline, but some of the reasons arent really that good, and it is causing them to have a lower school GPA.

Lastly, I did think that tutoring was fun. I can probably never do it again without leaving the room a few times, but it was fun. I actually have a problem with the fact that they had fun. We did make an educational impact on them, but I wonder if they understand the consequences of their actions. I feel like us being there takes that away. They forget that the reason they are there is because the are being punished.
