Hedyeh: Journal 11

Today, we volunteered at the Padua Center. Abi and I worked on their environmental plan and helped Nora out a little with Selena.
The Padua Center itself was a bit outdated, a little old. It was really big, though - so it worked. We were assigned to create an environmental plan for the center, in the format of a powerpoint presentation.
When we finally got the extremely outdated, block-like computers up and running, we discovered that powerpoint wasn't even installed on them. We went back downstairs, and Sister Virginia gave us her laptop to work with. We had decided to use Prezi, so the presentation would be nicer-looking, so we began working on that.
After we had done a bit of work, we went and played around a bit with Nora and Selena. The impression I got of Selena was that she was a really nice, kind of misunderstood kid looking for a bit of respect. When you complemented her, or told her she was doing something right, she lit up and seemed happy. The workers there told us that she was hard to work with and had a bit of an attitude, but I found her very enjoyable to work with. She was really nice.
When I heard that she had been in and out of multiple foster homes, I felt really sorry for her, and felt like the reason she was suspended was, while not justified, legitimate for a child of that kind of upbringing.
