Abi: Journal 10
Day 10 (November 11)
Today was a very easy- going day,( even though we were dreading a couple things). In the morning, each person presented their topics we were assigned to do, and I thought everyone had very different ways of presenting. I liked that because I didn't know what to expect. I learned more than I thought I would, and I hope I can present again to younger children. I am already starting to think about my action plan, and I am actually pretty excited about it. After lunch, was the moment everyone was dreading: coming up with a decent presentation/interactive entertainment about Veteran's day for the seniors at Swan Creek. We had singing in mind, but once we rehearsed, it was very clear that we weren't the best at singing. We spent about half and hour or more to finally decide what we were going to do. Last minute, Isaak came up with an amazing idea: Jeopardy! Everyone gave a basic question and answer, and eventually Issak finished making the game. I had mixed feelings about this, because I didn't think that the people there would know the answers. We walked to Swan Creek, and a woman guided us to where we were supposed to be. I was surprised to see how nice the facility was. It looked so new, and everything was clean, welcoming, and warm. There was a restaurant, juice bar, and even a Chapel in the center! When people started to come in to the Chapel in which we were presenting, we started to hand out desserts and drinks. It was nice to interact with the elderly, and it was sweet how they had so many friends there. After the Jeopardy was set up, someone told me I was going to be a co-host! I was so nervous, and I didn't really want to do it, but I didn't want to make anything worse. Everyone was so nervous because we noticed that allot of our answers on game were completely wrong. But once we started, several seniors were so engaged and new all the answers! It made me so happy that everyone enjoyed it and I know that our class felt the same way. We were not expecting the game to go so well, and it was all made possible because of Isaak! Also, I was shocked by the amount of Veterans that were actually there. Towards the end, we sang the national anthem. I know that so many people there appreciated that, including the staff. I am glad that we had such a success here at Swan Creek, and I would definitely come back!
