Asma: Journal 10

Today, we spent most of our day sharing the presentations that each of us created. Everyone was assigned a specific chapter to teach the class about. I was impressed with the caliber of everyone's presentations; there was a wide range of topics and I learned a lot.

Around noon, we walked over to the Swan Creek Senior Home Facility. To be honest, I don't really like the idea of senior homes. I always feel bad for the people who live there. It's as if no one in their family wanted to step up and help take care of them, so they just shipped the away to a "facility" where they'd be dealt with. It's important that seniors have family around them, especially when they're at that age! But anyways, the home itself was nice and clean. It was more like a hotel- there was a dining hall and juice bar and hallways of rooms. I guess that made it a little better. It looked like a place where the seniors would be comfortable.

Our purpose for going to the Senior Home was to provide a 15minute presentation to entertain the seniors on Veterans Day. We were all a little apathetic about it - our presentation was kind of last minute and we weren't too confident for a successful result - but it turned out way better than we expected! Isaak was able to pull it together half and hour before we actually went and made a Jeopardy game. The seniors had a lot of fun with that. After that, we sang the national anthem with them.

I think the trip to the senior home had a positive turnout. The seniors really enjoyed what we did for them and many of them thanked us. I felt happy that we were able to make them smile and enjoy themselves a bit.
