Today, we were introduced to the idea of creating an action plan. We had a lot of time to discuss our ideas with our peers and get ideas from Mr. Graham and Mrs. Ariss. I think my idea for my project is going to turn out really well once it's all fleshed out. I'm a little concerned on how I'm going to get everything done by the end of the week, though.
At around noon, we went to the Padua Center. It's basically a safe haven for suspended children. The Padua Center focuses on providing that safety for the children in their area, but not anyone else.
The Center was much nicer than I expected it to be. I was under the impression that it was a run-down, musty building with a few rooms. It turned out to be much larger than I anticipated, and cleaner too. Not to say I had low expectations for the place- Sr. Virginia's pictures from her talk were pretty nice- but considering the neighborhood it was in, I didn't think it was going to be as open and welcoming as it was. Anyways, most of us spent the entire time on the third floor of the house. There wasn't any interaction between us and the one suspended child or the staff at Padua. There were about four people who were able to talk to the suspended kid (her name was Selena) but as for those upstairs, that didn't happen. We sorted books and moved shelves and organized the future library-room for them. It was quite a lot of work, and tons of books were sorted. Once it's fully finished I think it'll be really nice. We're building the library that the kids who go to Padua can use, and that's pretty cool. I'm all for promoting reading at a young age; considering I love reading so much, I like to see others enjoying it as well.
